Handmade products and items are very popular and what was once a novelty is now becoming a major craze. In the last 20 years the handmade market has shown a dramatic rise in sales figures. Now products such as fair trade have been popping up too.

A handmade item takes longer to make and produce than an industrial made item as each part of the process is create with little tools and made by hand. The price of these items reflect that and that is why they have a slightly higher price tag than those made in factories, however you can see the quality and craftsmanship.
A good 20 years ago only craft stalls and a few shops had the handmade items selling well. Wood carving was very poplar and most craftsmen could personalise baby’s names on blocks of wood or make a handmade piece of furniture for a gift. Another popular handmade item was children’s toys with their names and date of birth on.
Shops are opening in towns and cities that sell handmade and crafted personalised items too. These offer services to order a personal item to be crafted there in front of your eyes. These could include wooden boxes with in scripts, bookmarks, pencils, t-shirts, scarfs and many more.
Big retails have also picked up on the popular market of handmade and personal items so they have created an online store to order for special occasions, birthdays and Christmas. Thortorns have chocolates that can be inscribed with messages and names. Buy a gift allows you to buy cufflinks with names on. Big clothes retails allows you to even devise and design your own t-shirts and top with logos and patterns.
