Popular Valves Being Used Today
A valve is a mechanical device which is used to regulate the flow of liquids or gases in pipes so the substances can flow in accordance with a specific use or need. There are many types of valves that are available today as they are designed for various applications.
The following types of valves are the usual valves that are being used today:
* Gate Valve
By its name, a gate valve acts like a gate that allows flow of liquid when it is opened and dis-allows flow when it is closed. It is commonly known as a stopper valve placed with pipeline. It uses a wedge that slides in and out to prevent the flow of liquid or other substances.
* Globe Valve
Named for its spherical shape, a globe valve is placed on a portion of the piping system where there is a division which can be closed or opened by a movable plug. The plug is operated by a screw connected through a stem. Typically, globe valves are automated using sliding stems although manually operated globe valves are used which can be turned using a handwheel.
* Safety Valve
It is a type of valve which is used to automatically discharge a certain material from a boiler or a pressure vessel to change its temperature or pressure. Many safety valves were used to be manually operated. Automated safety valves are now being used today. It is applied in sys-tems where dangerous scenarios may occur due to excess flow or pressure. It automatically triggers to prevent explosion or ruptures.
* Butterfly Valve
Butterfly valves are a type of quarter turn valves. It is a metal disc mounted on a rod. To close a passageway, the metal disc is rotated to a quarter while it rotates back to a quarter to allow passage.
