Link-Building Tips for Beginners
If you are just starting with Search Engine Optimization (SEO), then it might be daunting to start on your own with all the technology, strategy, tools, and tips available to you.
There are two distinct areas of SEO:
- On-page optimization (20% of SEO) – This involves all the work that you can actually do to a web site to increase its ranking in search engines. This includes changing your title tags, H1 tags, etc.
- Off-page optimization (80% of SEO) – This involves building links. Link building means getting other sites to link back to your own web site. This is the most important and time-consuming activity to promote a web site, but it is also the most rewarding. There are links ranging from bad quality to good quality ones.
- Good quality links are the toughest. They are usually from official or government web site or universities. Since they come from credible sources, search engines love these links.
- Bad quality links usually come from sites not related to your topic.
Finally, you can use the following methods to obtain links for your web site:
- Buy links – The better a link, the more expensive it is.
- Link exchanges – Swap links with other webmasters.
- Register with directories – Register your web site with popular directories.
- Write articles – Submit your articles to article directories such as Ezine.
- Write press releases – Submit your statements to web site such as PRweb.
- Use viral marketing techniques – Use sites such as pay per post (link baiting)
In the end, there is no golden rule to follow. These are just some very useful guidelines for SEOs. However, in order to be successful, you have to cultivate your individual style and strategy for web site promotion.
