Renault Launches First Electric Van
French car manufacturer Renault has won a bid for an order for over 15,000 all-electric vans from 19 French public authorities. The Renault Kangoo ZE will, over the next four years, be supplied to La Poste, energy company ERDF, public procurement organisation UGAP and other companies.
The new Kangoo made its debut in French dealerships in late October and is launching across Europe over the coming months, with deliveries expected in the UK soon. The models comprise the first range of fully electric vans.
With the growing number of all-electric vehicles on the roads comes the question of whether changes and re-training is needed in servicing and repair departments across Europe. Electric vehicles have fewer moving parts in the drivetrain than conventional cars and vans, meaning that wear and tear is less frequent. Fewer parts are therefore needed in workshops. There are at present, however, fewer technicians qualified to carry out maintenance work on electric cars, which makes costs more expensive than for fuel cars.
As the number of electric models available expands and the technology becomes more commonplace though, is it likely that electric car and commercial vehicle repair in Kent will become less expensive, as parts will be more readily available and training will cover EVs as standard. Additionally, money saved on running costs will offset repair and servicing costs.
Ultimately, the more consumers turn to electric and hybrid, the more the aftermarket will have to adapt to cater to their needs. If buyers are choosing electric, dealers and garages across the UK will ensure they are training up technicians in order to keep up with demand and stay competitive.
