Greenwich villagers are scared of about the STI disease

Manhattan’s Greenwich Village is now as renowned for its sexually transmitted infection rates as it is for itsfor its chic bars and cool cafes. Gonorrhoea rates among the women of the village have risen 57% from 2008. The village have seen the highest spike in diagnoses when it came to women.  With men the gonorrhoea rate actually dropped 4% within the same period of time.

The Health Department found that chlamydia rates among Greenwich Village women also rose as it is without a doubt that they are questioning the cause of the increases. It is a matter of the diseases spreading or the fact that there is more testing being carried out. Either way we know that people are still practicing unsafe sex.

Manhattan wide, gonorrhoea and chlamydia rates climbed sharply for men and less so for women from 2008 to 2010 with a 23% jump in reported gonorrhoea diagnoses among men.

Health officials and doctors told AM New York which first reported the figures that it was difficult to know why the diagnoses rates had risen. In the meantime, studies on the chlamydia vaccine are underway.

Considering the HPV vaccination prevents against a sexually transmitted virus and a cancer and is still not deemed appropriate for young girls to be administered despite the fact that 50% of the American population has the virus, what hope is there for a good reception of this vaccine, a vaccination against one of the most common STIs in the world.
