Every church has its own history. If you travel in Philippines you will discover lots of old churches that are still being use. Some famous churches in Manila are: Manila Cathedral located at Intramuros. Is one of the oldest churches that have lived. It was built in 1571 prior to the victory of a Spanish crusader who is Miguel Lopez de Legaspi, was named Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. It was a small church made from nipa and bamboo. Pope Gregory XIII he made it as a cathedral on 1579 of February the 6th. Bishop Domingo de Salazar the priest of the Manila Diocese built it to the cathedral around December of 1581. After the destruction due to the fire, from the typhoon as well as the earth quakes Manila Cathedral was rebuilt into stoned church and yet another earth quake destroyed it and was rebuilt however when world war II strike it had been destroyed again. The church was rebuilt once again. It’s worth visiting church because history where written all over it.
Quiapo Church located in Quiapo, Manila. Also generally known as “the Church of the Black Nazarene”. Founded on 1586 a small church made of nipa and bamboo. Church was reconstructed into stone on 1899. Was also been burned and also strike by earthquake. Every 9th of January devotees visits the church trying to touch the Black Nazarene that seemed to be believed that has miraculous powers that could heal any illness.
Baclaran Church also known as Redemptorist church or National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help. The church has a picture “Our Mother of Perpetual Help” in which Filipinos believes has a miraculous power to heal. Every Wednesday, also called “Baclaran Day” devotees goes to Baclaran to take part in a Marian Novena.
Malate Church located in Manila, near the Manila Bay. Is committed to Nuestra Senora de Remedios (Our Lady of Remedies), the patroness of childbirth. That may be believed to have miraculous powers specially for those married people who wishes to have a child. It’s the absolute right place to get married since it is believed that it would certainly give good chance of a health pregnancy and childbirth.
