Barney Frank to Retire From Congress
Rep. Barney Frank (D., Mass.), an architect of last year’s landmark financial- Moncler Outlet regulation overhaul, said Monday he wouldn’t seek a 17th term, adding to a list of Democratic retirements that could hurt the party’s already slim chances of retaking the House next year.
But it also gained more- Moncler sale conservative suburbs west of Boston and lost New Bedford, a strongly Democratic working-class coastal city where Mr. Frank was known as a champion of the fishing industry.
Mr. Frank said he wanted to spend his remaining time in Congress not campaigning but protecting the Dodd-Frank financial regulation from what he called “right wing assaults,” and pushing for deficit reduction that includes cuts in military spending.
Mr. Frank said Monday he had already been “ambivalent” about running again and had already planned to retire in his mid 70s to pursue other interests such as writing and lecturing. He complained about a “substantially deteriorated” political climate that he said makes it difficult to get things done in Washington.
“The anger in the country…is such that the kind of inside work I felt best at is not going to be productive in the foreseeable future,” he said.
