Collecting Items For Fun – Not Profit.

Introduction

A lot of people enjoy amassing a collection of items. Some people choose stuffed toys, some choose more expensive crystal collections. This article looks into why starting a collection should be fun and relatively inexpensive. The chances of your compilation ever being worth anything other than a sentimental value are very slight, so your years of collecting should be for fun, and not to make a profit.

Why Collect For Fun

The majority of people who start gathering items do it for the love of the objects – marble collects start because of their fondness for marbles in their youth. Crystal collects may like a single piece, and then decide to buy another, adding to their collection.
The problem for some people is they tend to forget the reason of their collection, and start collecting hoping that one day their gatherings will be worth vast sums of money. Unfortunately for them, even though they may purchase rare objects to enhance their collections – almost no collector will actually sell their collections in later life. Meaning the years spent will simply be sold off after they pass on.

It is much more advisable to simply collect for the love of the items – not in an attempt to accumulate wealth.

With this knowledge in hand, try to collect items that you are fond of, and avoid very rare items that you do not personally enjoy. Buying a very expensive coin to complete a collection in an attempt to make your own collection have greater value is a bad investment. It is only worth buying an expensive item, if you are personally happy with it, and there are no thoughts of the value of your collection once it is complete.

If you are just starting a collection – try to collect items that are inexpensive, fun to collect, and you know that it is just a hobby and for fun – and not a way to make a profit.
