Bluetooth Marketing Will Be Big in 2012

Obviously more traditional marketing methods; such as newspaper and magazine adverts, and those on TV and radio; are not going to go anywhere soon. However, there are new marketing mediums that have really been taking off in the past few years that are set to be very big in 2012, in particular the internet and proximity marketing.

The former has been growing rapidly in the past few years: pretty much anyone can afford a website nowadays, and online marketing agencies are springing up constantly. Websites advertise other websites, and it has now got the stage where web based companies are being advertised in other mediums, such as on TV and in the paper. The internet has made it easier for people to set up their own companies, and much, much easier for people to work from home, so marketing via that medium has really come into its own, particularly since broadband has become more widespread in homes up and down the country.

Proximity marketing, however, is much newer, despite the fact that Bluetooth has been around for quite a while. Initially the system was quite popular, but security fears and quicker battery draining meant that it suffered a setback in the past decade. However, with new smartphones coming with the system enabled as standard, improved battery life, and better security have caused somewhat of a renaissance in the software over the past few years. Consequently, Bluetooth marketing has been on the rise, and new companies are poised to take control in the fledgling market.

The basic premise of Bluetooth marketing is that it allows companies to send messages to people walking around in the street, when they are already out shopping and in a receptive mode. By appealing directly to the mobile phones of customers, it ensures that the message will be viewed, even if it is just to decline, and is more environmentally friendly than leafleting, its traditional counterpart.

Despite the fact that Bluetooth has been available for many years, it has taken this long for companies to build a brand based around proximity marketing. It has previously been possible for businesses to purchase Bluetooth boxes, on a small scale, and send out their own messages to a small number of customers. However, now large companies are offering access to large Bluetooth networks, where they will distribute your content for you, which in many cases they will even design themselves. This means that Bluetooth marketing is becoming viable for not only the very richest companies, but for businesses of almost any size.

Companies such as JungleDrum are offering access to large Bluetooth networks, so Bluetooth marketing is becoming a viable option for both large and small businesses. JungleDrum is growing rapidly, and 2012 looks set to see its expansion across the UK.
