Skoda yeti Old is Gold

The Skoda Yeti has won the Golden Steering Wheel for the best SUV. The awards are becoming the norm rather than the exception for the company with most of its car. The Yeti is simply spacious with huge space on the insides for the occupants and all this makes us doubt whether it is a compact SUV. The car easily houses up to five people and with four people on board, the centre seat folds down turning into a comfortable arm rest. The award is justified as the driving position is also high and visibility is top notch. The space inside is encompassing giving the feel of a cave and suits the adventure mood perfectly. The cavy boot space was also quite large and ate up most of the goodies we tried dumping into it.

The Yeti for a heavy beast is quite nippy and the 2-litre engine packs quite a punch and easily pulls off overtaking maneuvers even at high gears. For an SUV the car is quite responsive at the corners. The car is quite confident at the corners and fools you into the feeling of driving a sedan. On the long escapades too, the Yeti showed its class. The car has also a good ground clearance. The traffic ahead is also easily conquered and you can easily step on the gas and overcome the obstacles. On the hills too, the Yeti might fool you that you into driving a sedan and not a heavy beast. The Yeti easily turns and twists on the hilly terrain and never does it make you worry of a body roll. The Yeti has a strong chassis and it holds the car strongly negating even the slightest hint of a body roll. The drive wheels needs no introduction and are absolutely deserving of the award. The car exactly moves in the direction you want it go. The icing on the cake is the steering is adjustable for both height and proximity making for a perfect journey.

The car has also some fancy package with it making it a viable purchase. The car comes with a complete entertainment package on offer like the fancy touch screen unit, graphic display which is large and easy to operate. You might have to be careful while operating the touch screen as it requires your full vision while operating. On the positive side though, the steering mounted controls are a boon. The rest of the features are equally enthralling like the provision for slotting in an SD memory card to play music. This means that irrespective of the length of the journey you are always in for some company. The sound system is top notch which gives some good sound reproduction qualities and that too without any distortion. The SD card system does take its time to scroll through the list when you try to make a selection. The Skoda Yeti scores on the excellent ride quality, the gearbox, the engine and the lights. It has its own share of downfalls with tyre degradation issues and the lack of a full size spare. However for a crossover SUV it is a brave attempt and can be given some lenience for the downfalls.
