Though at first glance the West Midlands isn’t the prettiest place on earth, look closer. First stop, Coventry. Coventry owes its initial ugliness to damage sustained in World War Two, during which it lost its old cathedral. Nowadays though you can hang out on the University of Warwick Campus or head to War Memorial Park, where if you’re lucky (or your trip is half-decently planned) you’ll catch the Godiva Festival, named after famous historical Coventry resident, Lady Godiva. The FREE, three day festival pulls in over 75,000 attendees and features music from Kasabian to folk, hip hop, dance and reggae. There is also children’s entertainment, comedy, craft fair and the famous Saturday parade.
Next stop is Rugby. Now this town shouldn’t need any introduction. It is home of the world famous Rugby School, one of the oldest in Britain and one of the last of its kind. This is also the birthplace of the sport of Rugby, and there is a museum to prove it. The Rugby Football Museum contains a host of memorabilia from the sport’s history and they also still make traditional, hand-made rugby balls on the site.
Now take the winding backroads, or B-roads , that carry you past beautiful reservoirs, ancient parkland, quaint little villages and some of the country’s best golf courses, that is, if you fancy a spot of golf?
Finally you arrive at your destination. Check in to one of the excellent hotels near Rockingham speedway and visit Britain’s newest and fastest race circuit for yourself!
