The Five Biggest Brands of Men’s Sneakers
We recently posted an article discussing the largest brands that make women’s sneakers and figured that the major brands making women’s sneakers would also be the largest brands to make sneakers for men. However, men and women have very different style interests when it comes to sneakers and many brands tailor to men more than women. Only two of the brands on our list of brands for men’s sneakers were present on the same list of brands for women’s sneakers. Discussed in this article are the largest brands that make men’s sneakers (Lyrique Mens High Top Sneakers).
PUMA – In men’s footwear, PUMA is best known for their sneakers. While women’s PUMA sneakers usually come with a canvas upper, men’s PUMA sneakers usually do not, though they do have a number of canvas upper options at the lower end of the price scale. However, most styles have the traditional flat rubber sole but a leather or synthetic upper instead of canvas. With about 180 men’s PUMA footwear styles available, there is usually a look for most individuals. Canvas PUMA sneakers start at around $35 a pair while leather PUMA sneakers start around $50 per pair. The entire collection tops out around $90 a pair.
PF Flyers – The men’s PF Flyers collection is almost entirely traditional sneakers. Namely flat all rubber sole and a canvas upper. Sporting an almost even assortment of high top and low top sneakers in numerous looks. If you want a traditional sneaker, PF Flyers has the largest offering of traditional sneakers on this list. Prices range from $45 to $161 with differences mostly in design and not in the features.
Skechers – I have come to personally prefer Skechers to many other brands. My last pair of sneakers was a set of Skechers and I hated to get rid of them. If you are looking for more contemporary sneaker designs, Skechers is my recommended choice. Their collection is predominantly made of leather sneakers with variable tread designs so that you are not limited to the traditional flat rubber sole with shallow tread. Costs are comparable with other brands, ranging from $35 to $70 for most men’s sneakers styles. Shoes price above this range tend to be their fitness shoes and hiking boots.
Zipz – In the Zipz collection you won’t find many different features, but you will find a lot of colors and many different patterns. The entire collection is made of traditional sneakers with a flat rubber sole and canvas upper, but the styles they do have can be found in many colors from pink to camouflage. Their styles are also found from the high top cut to the extreme low cut. Prices range from $25 to $76 a pair.
Etnies – Etnies branded sneakers can be found in only a few functional styles but those styles have been made available with many different designs, colors, branding, etc. They remind me a lot of the offerings you would see in bowling shoes, but with a traditional flat rubber sole. Definitely not intended for bowling, but rather for the urban jungle. Starting at $45 a pair, prices top out at $70 a pair.
Even though the traditional sneaker got its start with Keds, there are no current Keds shoes for men. However, if the above brands don’t meet your requirements, there are many other brands that also make men’s sneakers, including: Reebok, Fila, Saucony, DC Shoes, Gola, Converse, Lugz, GBX, Stacy Adams, Impulse, Demonia, Vans, and many more.
Just about everyone needs a pair of Polo Ralph Lauren Mens High Top Sneakers to complete their footwear collection. They make a great shoe for low profile casual living and come at a relatively low cost. Since the design is so simple, there is little difference between brands except for the look. From this list, the exception would be Skechers where the traditional sneaker has been mixed with other shoe designs to offer greater cushioning.
