Recommendations For The Long-Distance Relocation

When preparing for a relocation, there are many things one must consider. At times, the process of relocation, can seem a bit overwhelming. There are so many things that one must plan for and the burden on the pocket book can be quite great. This can especially be true if you are moving a long distance, such as out of state or even across the country.

Among the things you must take into account during a move is transportation of personal items, transportation of vehicles, finding a new place to live, finding a new school for your children, finding new employment, and more. If you are moving for a job or already have a job lined up, this can make a move much less stressful. If you already have a new place to live in your new location, it can really take some of the stress off of the move. Below we will address a couple of the items above and the options that are available.

For the transportation of personal items, there are a few options. The option you choose is highly dependent on how much you are willing to pay. A great way to go, and probably the most expensive way to go, is to hire a moving service. This is definitely the best way to go if you can afford it. The movers will actually come into your home and box up and wrap up your personal belongings and load them onto a moving truck. This is great because you have to do almost none of the work yourself. They will then deliver the items to your new home and unload them for you. We recently did this on a cross country move and I couldn’t imagine any other way to go. Cost of this service usually depends on the weight of all your items. You can probably expect to pay somewhere between 2000 and 3000 dollars for a cross country move for a two bedroom apartment. This cost, of course, would be much less if you are only moving within a city or small radius.

A second option would be to rent a moving truck and do all of the packaging and loading/unloading yourself. This is definitely a less expensive way to go. If you’re willing to put in a lot of physical labor and this may be your best bet. This is probably the recommended approach if you are only moving a short distance and have some friends or family to help out.

A final option for transporting your items is using a personal storage container such as a POD. With this method, one can pack and load all personal belongings storage device and it is then transported by a third party. This is kind of a combination of the above approaches. You still have to do the labor but you don’t have to transport the items to the new location itself.

As you can see, there are a few options available for moving your personal items during a relocation. It all depends on how much you want to spend and how much physical labor you are able or willing to put in to the move.
