Pens: Choose the Right Tool for Each Job
Pens. The ultimate office debate point. Gel-tipped, felt tip, ball point or the classic Sharpie. Do you take what you can get or do you have to have your pen when you need or no pen at all? And God forbid someone get caught with your special pen brand when you’re on the hunt for the pen you set down in a meeting.
Most of us feel strongly about the writing implements we use on a regular basis and so having the appropriate writing supplies on hand becomes a matter of whether or not you can even do your work. It can also keep the peace in the office, especially when you have employees who feel particularly strongly about their choice of pen. (And really, who isn’t particular?)
Each variety of pen serves a purpose. Your standard ball point pen can do most jobs — note taking, signing checks, filling out forms. It’s not as sexy as a felt tip but it won’t ever let you down, or at least not until it runs out of ink. They are also relatively inexpensive so you can keep a large supply on hand and not worry when a client walks off with one or two of them.
A fineliner pen is more for your employees. It’s the pen that makes any piece of writing look professional. It also makes a strong statement with it’s bold, strong stroke on a wide variety of paper including card stock or heavier paper stock.
The water based marker has more limited functions in an office setting though it certainly carries it’s weight. White boards, posters, highlighting — these markers come with a purpose especially when you have a special color, like the coveted purple highlighter.
Pens will forever challenge the peace in an office so keeping all the right kinds of pen on hand is a must.
