Do It Yourself T Shirt Printing
Many people think that t shirt printing is much of a complicated process. This is further from the reality. As a matter of fact, it’s a task that even little kids can perform in just a matter of an hour and finish their custom t shirts once class is dismissed. All that needs to be done is to have that design in mind and the materials to get going with the project.
The supplies needed for such project include an embroidery hoop or a kind of rectangular frame. Make sure that the size of this frame can accommodate the size of your design. Craft stores sell these materials for only an affordable price. Next, is to look for a cloth material such as a chiffon cloth or perhaps a silk screen. Tulle however, won’t be a good selection since the holes are large enough to smear the design. Be sure that you find a cloth material thin enough to allow the paint to flow through very easily.
You can choose different types of paints; latex can be used but they are rather washable. Choose a cloth paint that are permanent. These are available in several colors and textures. The you’ll also use a rubber scraper to spread the paint so it could stick to the tshirt. This tool will see to it that the paint layer is thin enough to dry up fast so it will adhere to the t shirt. You need a rubber scraper for without it, your paint may not be evenly spread out therefore you might ruin the whole design.
Next is to place your design onto paper or you might have it printed out. For the newbies, start with one or two colors first. As you progressively gain experience in t shirt printing you may choose more complicated designs involving more than 3 colors. Next is to get a stencil and place it over your design then you have to cut it in accordance to the frame size. If your design has two colors you may need to have 2 frames as well-one for each color.
Cut out your stencil designs carefully and make sure the second color parts are left off. For the other color design, cut only the part which has the second color and leave alone the other color design. Then place newspapers in your t shirt. Place these on a flat surface and tape the shirt so it doesn’t move around when t shirt printing. Gently position the newspapers inside to make sure that it won’t contribute wrinkles to the shirt surface. Then you put the stencil to the area where you need the design and place the screen on top of the design. With only a small amount of paint, run the paint using the scraper in just one motion. Do this once more. Slowly lift the stencil and the screen off. Then air-dry the shirt. That is it!
