Sweeney was one of only six employees cheap air foamposite one out of thousands who took the retirement deal. Because of the sharp reduction in salary, the five other men were forced to sell their homes and downsize to condos. Luckily for Sweeney, he’s been able to stay in his View Park home.
“I’ve been able to stay where I am because my wife works,” Sweeney said. “And unlike my other friends, I have a NFL retirement in addition to UPS retirement.”
His wife, Zivia Sweeney, a clinical accounting professor at USC, helps maintain the family with her income. But Zivia’s income, even with Calvin’s combined retirement, doesn’t make up for the severe salary cut to the household. The Sweeneys have three children, 19, 22, and 24 years in age and s three college tuitions to pay for.
Sweeney’s situation is less than ideal to say the least. But despite the loss of income, Sweeney finds the years of life he gained back to be his silver lining.
“UPS is a high intense, stressful job, especially with the position I had,” Sweeney said. “The stress was tearing my health down. Everyone in my position had an derrick rose 2.0 assistant except for me.”
