Is A Wireless Security Alarm System The Right Choice For Your Home?

When it comes to home security, no one can be too careful. Whether you’re living alone or with your family it’s important to protect both your home and those within. There are various security systems available and many modern versions use wireless technologies. But how well do they work and how are they better than other designs?

The home security business is an area that’s done extremely well unfortunately. No one likes to think about crime but it is real and you need to protect yourself from it. For many years developers of security systems have been trying to make them smaller and less noticeable. Wireless security system components fill this role nicely and have many advantages but a few disadvantages as well.

Naturally, the advantage of a wireless home security system is that it’s impossible for an intruder to disable them by cutting the wires, a weakness of wired systems. When your security system can be made completely useless with a single cut wire, then it’s probably not such a great investment in the first place.

Unlike a wired security system, a wireless system can also call the security company to alert them of a problem if the wires have been cut or there is a problem with the phone lines. A wired system is of course completely reliant on wires to operate and cannot do this – and cannot be installed just about anywhere the owner wants, since the cables involved are a physical limitation on the places you can use the system.

You can install a wireless home security system in places where they cannot be easily seen or gotten to, which makes it nearly impossible for a criminal to disable the system. Along with all of the advantages of wireless systems, there are also some negatives of course, such as power supplies – while some systems can be plugged in, many use batteries, so the owner has to make sure to keep fresh batteries installed in their system.

The next con is in relation to signal strength. Cheaper models might not have enough power to punch through all structure types or multiple walls effectively. This can result in a garbled signal or in some cases the signal not being received period. Another issue involving the wireless signals with devices such as this is that they can be jammed. While most burglars don’t carry jamming devices with them the components can still be interfered with by the weather.

Weather may also interfere with signal strength, which is something else to keep in mind. Inclement weather and solar flares can prevent a wireless home security system from functioning as intended – it’s usually not an issue, but again, it’s something that homeowners should keep in mind.

While we’d all love to live in a world where there was no need for home security systems, until this day comes, we need to take steps to protect ourselves and our homes. Hopefully you’ll never need your security system, but the peace of mind that you’ll gain are well worth making this investment in your safety.
