A short tutorial on runway modeling
Runway modeling takes the skills of feline catwalking that amplifies the style and decor of a dress. Runway fashion models are hired with the sole intention of selling clothes made by fashion designers. Hence, if the model is uncomfortable in the clothes donned, they might make the entire outfit look off. Hence, models who have that oomph factor and ability to make a killer walk down the ramp are the ideal ones for it. However, even though very few people are born with the appropriate skill set, a little practice might help. To access more options, many runway models have been seen to switch their careers to acting in their later lives.
So, to start with, you need to practice with the shoes on. Needless to say, ramp walking requires needle-tipped high heels that are painful to walk in. So, you need to start rehersing with regular heels and then promote to stilettoes. Runway modeling is nothing but the art of walking gacefully, balancing the body assymetrically while you turn to flash every bit of the apparel making it appealing to the audiences. However, practising with a wide variant of high heel shoes are necessary to increase the comfort level with the creations of all stylists. Even, this bit of practice will also help in acting as actors are also required to be fully smug in dagger-sharp heels.
While walking, the models should maintain a straight line along which they step their feet. Thus, the best idea for practicing is to tape up the floor in a linear line. The body should be completely straight with shoulders drawn back. This is the perfect walking posture for ramp models. Even though beginners might not find this pose very normal or comfortable, they get used to it with time. Runway modeling also needs faces that have all the features that can conjure up a killer look. However if, you are not gifted with that perfect face, what you can do is groom yourself up a bit before attending open calls.
The next big thing is the attitude that counts beyond everything else in both runway modeling and acting. You need to bear the attitude that flaunts your personality. However, your body will also play a very strong role in the walk. You need to brandish a lean figure that is neither thin, nor flabby. The body should showcase suppleness and health, without flab peeking out of the bends. Since, an alarming count of models has been reported with eating disorders, the fashion industry has relaxed its criterion of selection is being more humane. Even for acting, the actors need to flaunt a strong built that is well toned, yet not all very skinny. You can always join modeling schools to get professionally trained for the purpose.
