A good north face coat can make an outfit and rid you of all wardrobe

Not only did this deep camel-coloured polo (below) have north face carmel jacket something alluringly MaxMara-ish about it, it sat fetchingly close on the hip and comfortably loose at the neck. The label said machine washable, so in it went, on a cold delicates cycle. Astonishingly, it kept its shape well. A great buy.
A slinky slim silhouette, but this jumper (below) is prone to pilling and has the dreaded dry-cleaning recommendation on the label. I hand washed it in tepid water as thoroughly and as quickly as I could (less time in water the better), popped it on a short spin cycle and dried it flat. Success.
If you’re smart, you can shop for your autumn/winter wardrobe plus next summer too with just one or two savvy purchases. Think versatile pieces that can be accessorised various ways and you’ll get maximum cost per wear. Buy classics that won’t date to smarten up your wardrobe next year too. At Reiss, one of the Duchess of Cambridge’s favoured stores, dresses are discounted by up to 50 per cent – some of them are more north face realization jacket than fit for a princess – while the best bargains are at DVF (another preferred DoC brand) where you’ll find over 60 per cent off certain pieces.
Heavily discounted at this time of year, with designer labels slashing prices by at least half, sometimes (check out Jaeger, for instance) up to 60 or 70 per cent off. Invest in classic colours – navy, black, grey, camel or red – for a purchase that can last you for years, or use the opportunity to buy something striking in this season’s more outlandish colours – cyclamen, gold or leopard.
A good coat can make an outfit and rid you of all wardrobe crises for the winter season, so choose the best quality you can afford.
There’s barely a month in the year where you won’t get some wear out of a good pair of boots. Choose wisely and these will last more than just one season too. Decent quality flat or low-heeled boots will never date and are a staple for work or weekend wardrobes. Choose cheap north face backpacks riding boots for a classic, smart look, or biker detail for a more laidback approach.

Ankle boots are popular right now and according to the catwalks, they will be back in fashion next year too – so buy with a view to longevity.
And I don’t know about you, but I am not ready for it, fashionably speaking. I need thicker leggings, fuzzier boots and something to take the chill off. Luckily for me (a person who hates the cold!) this year’s trend of over-sized, longer-than-life cardigans is here.

Cardigan sweaters are in, and they are long.

Some are consistently long, and others are short in the back, but long in the front. These sweaters are like big knit afghans, wrapped around you like a glorified Snugie. Earth tones seem to be most popular — camel, heather gray and tan. Most of the sweaters I’ve seen have no buttons, but might have a belt. I have seen these “open cardigans” being carried from most every retailer from Nordstrom to Kohl’s.
