A Drive on the Oakland Bay Bridge
Known locally as the ‘Bay Bridge’, the Oakland Bay Bridge in San Francisco is a pair of bridges that connect San Francisco (eastern side) to the city of Oakland (western side). This toll bridge is also known as one of the longest spans around the world. Every day, approximately 270,000 vehicles pass through the Oakland Bay Bridge that also makes it one of the busiest bridges in the world.
Its construction began in July 1933 under the supervision of Chief engineer Ralph Modjeski. The bridge is a true masterpiece that was opened for the public traffic on 12th November 1936. After knowing the facts about the Oakland Bay Bridge, I myself decided to drive on it to experience the sheer pleasure of an enthralling journey. Once everything is planned, the most important thing I did was to look for a car rental in San Francisco. Although it’s a not a tedious task, the large number of options for car rental in San Francisco made us little confused. My family, including me, my husband and a 6 year old son; we all were quite excited about this splendid journey.
While searching on internet for car rental in San Francisco, I landed myself among a pool of car rental agencies. That was a clear winter morning and as we approached to the Bridge, my excitement increased. We payed $2 at the toll, as it was not included in the car rental in San Francisco. This graceful bridge connects the San Francisco and Yerba Buena Island. The Bay below us was quite fascinating for all of us especially for my son who was thrilled to see lots of water beneath the Bridge. The next attraction is the tunnel through Yerba Buena Island that led to the twin tower suspension. The tunnel is divided into north and south sides. South side is basically a railways track that has “deadman holes” used by the track workers to dug in when a train arrives. However, north side lacks these holes due to carrying only the road traffic.
The huge bridge consisting of 10 lanes (5 eastbound and 5 westbound) is made of steel and concrete and its strength can be experienced by seeing the number of heavy vehicles moving on it everyday from past several years. Car rental in San Francisco was a good idea for us as putting the miles on our own car and taking the pressure of driving is not worth when you are on such masterpiece where you want to see every detail. We hired a driver as well; therefore we watched the whole bridge and the bay minutely while relaxing in the car. Drivers provided by car rental in San Francisco are also quite experienced and the one hired by us drove the car on the Bridge with caution.
My advice: Whenever plan to drive on Oakland Bridge car rental in San Francisco is the best option, as it may give you the pleasure of relaxing while experiencing the creation of man that is enticing. You can Rent A Car San Francisco from Hertz
