The medical doctor

Whenever we are sick we always go to see a medical doctor, we call him “the doctor”, he is always available to use when we are sick, injured or when we think we are sick, because we know that whatever illness we have, the doctor knows about it and he knows how to cure it, whether by prescribing medicine or send us to the hospital for surgery.

The doctor represents a healer, someone we can trust with our lives, but few of us know what he has been through to become a doctor, long years of medical school, constantly learning about diseases and injuries, learning how to treat and cure them, and even after he finishes the medical school, the medical doctor will still learn about the newest diseases and newest and improved treatments.

The medical doctor is a general term, used freely to describe the doctors we love, but in they can specialize in one or more areas of the body such as the Cardiologists who is specialized in the treatment of the heart and the circulatory system; the Dermatologist who is specialized in skin problems, the Gastrologist for the stomach problems; the Gynecologist who`s main specialty is the female reproductive system; the Opthalmologist who treats the eye problems, and so on.

For every part of our body there is a doctor, while they are usually old and highly sociable, giving away an aura of trust and safety, but even so, some people try not to visit the doctor too often, as the old saying goes “one apple a day keeps the doctor away”, simply because the idea of where`s a doctor, there`s a problem that he can fix.

It has always been that before a practitioner joins the medical world he must take an oath called the Hippocratic Oath, swearing to treasure and provide aid for the human life to the best extent of his powers, even if it means exposing himself to dangers of contaminated blood and wounds. He is sworn to always practice medicine to the best of his abilities without harming the patient and more interestingly, to avoid treating the areas that other specialists can do better, meaning that if the medical doctor encounter a serious problem he must send his patient to a specialized doctor who could treat him better.

Sadly today medical malpractices are happening every day, making it obvious that some doctors have forgotten about their oath, perhaps some need a reminder that they have taken the oath and that it means that they practice medicine as efficient as they can do.
