Hot Tubs and Alcohol Don’t Mix

Spending a quiet afternoon relaxing in the backyard is rapidly becoming a favourite pastime for people everywhere. To help things along a liquid lunch appears to be just the right addition to complete those afternoon plans. With the hot tubs safety list in check and the water heated to just the right temperature, you are now ready to enjoy some serious down time and soak those cares away.   However, lazing in the hot tub involves some simple safety precautions to ensure that your relaxing afternoon stays just that, a relaxing afternoon.  Without taking safety into account, your relaxing afternoon may well turn into a bit of a nightmare.

Awaking several hours later with a sunburn red enough to make a lobster jealous  is not exactly the reward meant for the day and is a good indication that perhaps the liquid lunch downed  earlier might not have been such a great idea after all. Now, in addition to that painful sunburn it appears your plans for the rest of the day went down the drain with the water. The combination of the warm water and alcohol made you so relaxed that you lost the entire afternoon to one long nap.  It looks like your one person pool party went right to your head before catching up with the rest of you. The outcome could have been serious.

There are many disadvantages to alcohol and water related accidents and the number one contender for the title is accidental drowning due to alcohol. When consumed at the wrong time and place that ‘couple of mixed drinks or beers’ in combination with a long soak in overheated water can cause muscles to become weak resulting in injury to limb and life.  Relaxing in the tub with a glass of wine might seem like a great idea, but moderation is the name of the game here.

Alcohol can take credit for causing a great number of serious accidental situations, from drowsiness and dizziness to becoming weak and very unsteady. A good example of this situation would be the life of the party guy,  everyone loves his antics at pool parties but there is nothing amusing about falling over into the pool when your equilibrium is impaired with one too many.

All of these things can lead to serious issues and definitely the two don’t mix well together. Next to childhood drowning, alcohol ranks high on the scales of dangerous situations looking for a place to happen. Any alcoholic beverage, no matter the strength, can cause drowsiness when mixed with the temperature of the water.  Falling asleep in a pool or tub can be lethal.

Drinking and water activities, just like oil and water, do not mix well. Drinking plus hot tubs are a bad mixture.
