Is Travelling a Luxury?

Traveling during the holidays has become more and more popular with the development of our social economy and culture. But at the same time, there exists a debate on ‘Is travelling a luxury’.

Some people believe that travelling is a luxury. As we all know, travelling is defined as making a journey from one place to another so we have to pay for traffic, diet, accommodation, and tickets if necessary. Besides, travelling abroad may take us much more money. According to a research, which is called ‘China Outbound Tourism Development 2011 Annual Report’, taken by China Tourism Research, 5.7 million Chinese chose travelling abroad in 2010, and this number has increased by 20.4%. Then, it was reported that the prices of travelling must be higher the next year because of the appreciation of RMB, so people think travelling is a luxury for us ordinary people.

On the contrary, travelling is not a luxury and it is a kind of our basic need. Everyone is forced to be faced with various pressures. Under this circumstance, travelling with our families, friends or by us is a sensible choice. It is travelling somewhere that broadens our horizons and brings us more chances to make friends from everywhere. Further more, our ability of communicating with others can be improved during travelling and we will feel fresh and energetic to continue our work and study. When we are not ready to spend too much money or time, we can travel around the villages near our city by bicycle. Independent travelling is pretty exciting if we do not want to visit with tourist groups. Also, mutual travelling, during which tourists provide help and take care of each other, will make us save up a lot of money. In a word, travelling can be a very relaxing and simple activity rather than a luxury.

In my view, travelling is not a luxury but an experience for our hearts.
