The city is a symbol of Humanity and people from all counties, religions casts and creeds reside in perfect harmony. In the middle of the city there is a symbol of harmony and peace known as the Matrimandir.
The Sri Aurobindo Ashram was founded by Indian freedom fighter and spiritualist Sri Aurobindo Ghose. The ashram is well known all over the world for its spirituality and blend of yoga with modern science. It is located on Rue de la Marine and can be visited daily between 8 a.m to 6 p.m.
Pondicherry is a place of rich history and it is on display in the various museums. The Pondicherry museum houses sculptures and artifacts belonging to the Chola and Pallava dynasties. The Bharathidasan Museum displays the works of the famous poet and playwright Bharathidasan. Another famous poet, Subramanya Bharati has his works and poems on display in the Subramanya Bhararti Museum. Tourists can also visit the Children’s Museum and the Jawahar Toy Museum.
