Southwestern Design for Your Living Room
The southwest design is becoming more and more popular as time goes on. Many enjoy the comfort and welcoming feel when entering a room designed in the southwest style. So why not try this in your living room?
The color scheme of a southwest room is a must before anything is done in the living room. Many individuals choose neutral colors for the wall such as light tans to accent as the desert side and many other shades of yellow, orange, red, and green brought into the mix with other decor. Using these main colors in your rooms design will make it pop and also create that look you always wanted to attempt.
Now if you head into the direction with a neutral wall you’ll want the color to pop out in the decor such as window treatments, throw blankets, and pillows. You can also throw a few neutral pillows with match the walls colors to tie the theme together. Just by adding a few colorful details into the room you’ll still create the southwest style.
If your walls are painted in bright colors, your couch and chairs should be of more subdued, perhaps even neutral tones to break up the cacophony of color. In this situation wood is a very good choice to complement the bright colors; dark woods are especially good for setting a Southwest scene. For accent pieces, ivory and turquoise is perfect with bright colors.
Of course you can’t forget about the wall decor. Many use Native American rugs as wall art since they don’t want them ruined on the floor. If you find other carved wood pieces, this is great to place around the wall or even on a shelf in the room.
The area rug can be the last or the first item to place in the room. If you already have a theme and you have to search for a rug afterwards you’ll at least know what themed colors you’re looking for. If you need a bit of help in the beginning, try starting with a wonderful area rug. This will give you the kick start into a great design.
AT the end you should have a room where the family and friends can sit back and enjoy!
