Home and Floor Plans with LEED ratings are certified by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design scale (LEED). The US Green Building Council issues the LEED ratings. Homes that are assessed by this council must satisfy a number of criteria to show that the house and Floor Plans will ensure the building will be environmentally sustainable after construction. The number of LEED buildings is increasing every year with more people becoming environmentally conscious and wishing to go green. LEED buildings help to save in the long-term since they consume less energy. However, the initial cost of using house and Floor Plans with LEED certification can be high and this daunts many people into getting such a certification. LEED buildings are given points in seven categories – Energy and Atmosphere, Sustainable Site, Indoor Environmental Quality, Materials and Resources, Water Efficiency, Innovation in Design and Regional Priority. The higher the points, the greater the merit awarded like LEED Certified, LEED Silver, LEED Gold and LEED Platinum that is given to a building with the highest points of 80 or more. Initially, LEED ranking was criticized for favoring those using fossil fuel. Hence, the council has altered the criteria to include those who use alternative fuels too.
