More Families in Ohio Assume Caregiving
Since Ohio long term care costs get higher each year most families here have opted to shoulder the responsibilities of a caregiver to ensure their elderly or disabled loved gets proper care.
It is clear to most people in Ohio that before they can avail assistance from Medicaid they have to spend down their assets until it is no more than the required amount. To prevent this from happening, they depend on each other for their long term care (LTC) needs but the sad truth is that nobody’s nest egg is sufficient for the cost of care which only gets higher each year.
Family members think if they chip in to cover the expenses of a dear parent or sibling who is receiving care in a nursing home, an assisted living facility, or at home they will get by. Unfortunately, not many people who chose to self-insure managed to preserve their assets.
Most individuals who relied so much on their nest egg and retirement money for their LTC needs ended up with empty coffers, while those who bravely shouldered the health care expenses of a loved one hold themselves responsible for delivering the latter into the care of Medicaid.
Medicaid is not actually a bad thing to consider because this federal health insurance program is really designed for the poor but its budget for LTC is limited so you can’t expect it to provide you or a loved one extensive nursing home coverage. Perhaps for supplemental insurance Medicaid may be helpful.
Medicaid’s concentration is really on poor families and individuals with a monthly income that is way below the poverty level, so members of the middle class should not even consider it in the first place.
Ohio Long Term Care Costs Saw a Rise in Informal Caregivers
Informal caregivers in Ohio admit that it’s taxing to provide round-the-clock care to their loved ones who are either chronically ill or whose age has made them too weak to function normally.
Not that they are complaining but they worry about their own health and their future because most of them had to leave their jobs indefinitely so that they can focus on providing care to their elderly or disabled loved ones.
LTC experts say if one is worried about his future health care needs, he is not a hopeless case yet. It’s scarier if people don’t seem bothered at all by the rising cost of care thinking that Medicaid or Medicare will be around to supply their LTC needs in the future.
Some people even say with conviction that their long term care is already covered by their health insurance. LTC specialists say if these individuals continue to live with this belief they will never get around to building an effective LTC plan that will protect them and their families from the financial hole.
At present, younger Ohioans are spending $216 daily for a loved one’s stay in a nursing home but a few years from now they will need $864 a day to foot their own nursing home bills. Ohio long term care costs should not be taken lightly because if you do you run the risk of facing impoverishment.
