Understanding Anger and its Effects

Anger is one of the strongest negative emotion a person can feel. Although, anger can be suppressed, expressing it in a more discreet and manageable way is the best way to deal with it. Scientifically, the biological and physiological aspects of anger are the same with fear, restlessness and extreme happiness. There are several outside stimuli that can cause anger, one may feel hate out of depression, abandonment and physical abuse. The feeling of extreme hate towards a person or an event is natural, however anger management should be observed at all times, because most of the things we say when we are angry we won’t actually think of doing when we are not angry. What happens to a person physiologically when he is angry? Like all animals, the brain of humans is equipped with devices that gauges a situation. If a person encounters an external stimulus that threatens his security the body will release a hormone called Adrenalin, by this the brain will assess the situation and the body will manifest speed, strength and force as the body enters the fight or flight response. When a person encounters an external stimulus that makes the person angry the body will produce the same response it will give to elating situation, although the brain assesses the situation differently. Today, road rage is one of the most destructive kind of anger the government tries to control. Several people while driving encounters stimulus that make them more subjective on their own feelings. Although most of these road rages end in hostile and ugly situation a person temper may have cost someone his life. When extreme anger is felt the body enters the flight or fight reaction some people may experience heavy breathing since the blood no longer passes through internal body organs and are detoured to the muscles. A person’s vision also sharpens since pupils become dilated. Thoughts scatter and thinking become distorted, in short the body is ready for battle although in most cases no physical battle actually exists. People who experience chronic anger usually develops some health issues that may affect the health of an individual in the long run. The immune system may experience chronic and degenerative diseases that makes the immune system vulnerable to diseases. Anger also creates social discomfort, if a work place is full of hate most worker feels the discomfort therefore creating social dysfunction in the workplace.
