gourmet desserts
Eating a meal at a gourmet restaurant is a real treat. All you need is a great bottle of wine, good food, and good company to make the night extra special. And, there’s nothing like going all out and finishing such a meal with a gourmet dessert. The wait staff brings out the dessert tray and you choose what’s best… And there’s no doubt that those desserts look delicious and complicated. Surely, it must be hard to replicate them at home.
It’s definitely easy to assume that the lose weight fast are complicated and only an accomplished pastry chef can make them. Yes, it’s true that some of these desserts require advanced knowledge to accomplish. For example, the first time I made apple strudel, which requires some techniques I am not familiar with, did not go very well. But I know that with practice, even something that I find tricky will become second nature.
But even without practice, there are some gourmet desserts that are nearly fool proof. Take the basic parfait, for instance. This is a dessert that layers different ingredients such as pudding, mousse, fresh fruit, chocolate pieces, whipped cream, etc to create something that is both elegant and delicious. The thing I really like about parfaits is that you can include ingredients that are within your abilities to prepare. And, you don’t even need to make the ingredients from scratch. You can prepare brownies from a mix, pudding from a box, and use whipped cream in a can if that is within your capabilities.
Spending time making gourmet desserts is something that is rewarding. Some of the recipes are pretty easy to follow. Others, however, are difficult and challenging. I don’t know about you but I love to make desserts that are simple and beautiful.
But every now and then I’ll want to expand my skills and learn something more complicated. For example, I made Apple Strudel for the first time not long ago and it was a disaster. I could have used some instruction, that’s for sure. But for every kitchen disaster, I’ve also had a lot of triumphs.
If you find a recipe from a trusted source, you know that it will be well written and fairly easy to follow. I like to use recipes from my favorite baking cookbooks. I usually have dessert making mishaps when I try to follow a recipe from a source that wasn’t careful. There’s nothing more discouraging than confusing instructions or if you realize that something was missing from the writeaup halfway through cooking it.
There are a lot of great videos online that can help. There are also paid services you can use. And don’t forget all the great cooking shows on TV. Sometimes it helps to watch instead of read. It can really help illustrate the technique.
You don’t need to be in cooking school to take a class on how to make desserts. Check your local adult education center, the library, local cooking stores, etc to see if they offer classes.
