A Guide to Vacation Rentals in Whistler, Canada

Trips to winter destinations are great ideas. Whistler, in my opinion, is one of the must-visit destinations. Even prior to hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, this town in British Columbia was already a favorite among skiers and snowboarders. Having been interested in such sports, I decided to take a trip and fell in love with the place. Everything went great, except for my accommodations. This is the reason why I have written a short article for those who need tips when it comes to vacation rentals in Whistler, Canada.

My last trip was a bit of a disaster. To be honest, it was rather last minute and I did not have much time to prepare. This time around, I decided I would sit down and list some of the things to look for in Whistler vacation rentals. I hope what I learned from my most recent visit helps you plan yours.

Amenities

During my last search for vacation rentals in Whistler, Canada, I had to settle for a one-bedroom accommodation that barely had any amenities – not even internet! Although it is likely you will spend most of the day outside, added amenities are always a great fallback in case you end up with some extra time.

Swimming Pools – For me, a vacation is not complete without a day spent lounging by or in the pool. This is true even in colder destinations. Be sure the lodge you choose has a heated pool. Hot tubs are great, but you will probably end up competing with other guests for its use. A heated pool is a great alternative in case someone else is using the hot tub. It is a perfect way to unwind after a full day of skiing or snowboarding.

Internet Connection – On my last visit, the lodge I stayed at did not have a reliable connection. I had to use my air card and you can only imagine how much I had to pay after. Do not make the same mistake – look for vacation rentals providing complementary internet access. If a wireless connection is not available, they should at least have a common computer room where you can log on for a few minutes or so.

Fireplace – I realized this too late. It was colder than usual, and the heater was conking out every now and then. Having a fireplace in your rental unit is great not just for keeping warm; it also completes the feel of your winter vacation. It will be something great to have especially if you are going on the trip with family and friends, or a significant other.

Entertainment – An in-room TV will come handy especially if you decide not to bring a laptop or personal entertainment gadget with you. Seek accommodations with cable or a satellite connection. This will give you more options for those cold lonely nights if you are on the trip alone.

Above all else, seek Whistler vacation rentals with an ideal location. It should be in a place accessible to the town’s greatest attractions and center of commerce. Visiting the Ilanaaq (mascot of the 2010 Olympic Games) statue in Whistler Mountain and the Olympic Village is definitely a must. These are just some tips you should keep in mind when planning your trip.
