What to do if you have put the wrong fuel in your car?

Standing at the petrol station you look down and realize that you have just placed petrol in a diesel car.  Driving away from a petrol station your car starts to make a funny noise and a wave of despair fills you as you realize that you have placed the wrong fuel into your vehicle.  Regardless of when you realize that you are a victim of misfuelling, a sudden realization will pass over you as the weight of your action starts to actually process.

After the shock passes, the first thing you likely want to know is what to do now to prevent further damage.  If you have not started your vehicle when you realize that you have misfuelled, the first thing you should do is call a car a towing service because when you place petrol in a diesel engine it should never be started due to the damage that will occur to the filter, seals, fuel pump, and injector.  In fact, the longer amount of time a car is driven after misfueling the higher the costs, and the costs can weigh up to 15 thousand pounds, so it is essential you call a towing service.

It is also important if you drive a newer, more modern vehicle that you do not even unlock the doors after misfueling, because some of the more modern electronic systems will automatically inject fuel into the petrol pump after the doors unlocked so even this simple act can cost a few hundred pounds.  In the best case scenario, a garage will be able to drain your tank before any damage occurs if you promptly call towing service.
