Andy Evans – how he got his F 50
What comes to mind of a racing enthusiast when one thinks of Formula One? To many, the obvious answer would be either Lewis Hamilton or Michael Schumacher. But there is a tiny possibility that these men have not been as motivated if it had not been for one individual who changed the course of F1 racing for years to come. Let us see, how this momentous event shaped out. The year is 1963. To an onlooker, Andy Evans is just another 12 year old cheering for his favorite team at a Can-Am sports rally. But little did the world know, behind that cheering facade, was a determined mind, where a desire was slowly taking shape, that would change the history of Formula One for years to come.
In his late teens, he had already begun racing cars, which by then had become a hobby for him. He decided to take his obsession for sports cars and racing to newer levels, as never seen before. As we entered the 90s, Andy Evans was awarded the membership to the International Motor Sports Association. By 1994, he was also the owner of his own racing team, Team Scandia which boasted of names like Eric van de Poele, Eliseo Salazar, Michele Alboreo and Fermin Velez, who went on to score some of the biggest victories like Sebring and Daytona.
Andy Evans is also known for his voluntary endorsement of Ferrari as the ultimate name in racing cars has helped champion Ferrari to unprecedented heights. Needless to say, this has also helped bring together two powerhouses of the century together.
