Ford Figo India Review

The Ford Figo has been in existence since September, 2009 and competes with the likes of Maruti Ritz, Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz and the Skoda Fabia. The Ford Figo was one of the best selling cars in India in the entry level hatchback segment. The Figo is also available in a new variant called EXi (O) in both petrol and diesel. It is also sold in South Africa and in Mexico under the Ikon Hatchback moniker, with different engines.

The Ford Figo has been inspired from the Fiesta platform. The car has been made with the intention of keeping the prices very competitive and in the process they have managed to place it rather strategically in the large hatchback segment. The overall design and style is typical Ford, with bits from both the Fiesta and the Ford Fusion as well. The car is available in both petrol and diesel engine options. The Figo is the first hatchback from Ford India and it has surely made the company proud and regain its lost glory.

The interior room is best in class for the Figo. The tall roofline, excellent headroom, knee and legroom, seating of five people, trunk space at 284 litres make the car best in its class. The base model has an all-black interior with grey highlights while the mid and high level trims get black shade that’s complemented by an aluminum-effect central console and air-con surrounds. The top-end model also gets a coral-hued dashboard.

The petrol version of Ford Figo is run by a 1.2L petrol engine which produces 71Ps of maximum power and 102 Nm of peak torque while the diesel version of Ford Figo comes with the 1.4L, Duratorq diesel engine that produces 69PS of maximum power and 160 Nm of top torque. Ford Figo comes in four variants in both petrol and diesel engine.

The petrol variants of Ford Figo are priced at Rs 3.5 to Rs 3.6 lacs. While the diesel variants of Ford Figo are priced in the range of Rs 4.5 to Rs 5.45 lacs.
The Ford Figo safety features include Dual Front Airbags, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brake-Force Distribution), Belt tensioners, Belt Force limiters, Seatbelt warning indicator, Door-ajar warning, key less entry and Rapid Decelerating Warning system etc.

Against the competition, the Ford Figo is not the best looking compared to cars like Chevrolet Beat or Hyundai i20 who are more aggressive and have a dynamic styling. Ford Figo is more against the likes of Maruti Swift which looks a bit dated now. The Ford Figo has been silently eating into the sales of the Maruti Swift. The Ford Figo also competes with the Tata Indica Vista, Ritz, i10, the Punto etc.

The 1.4 L diesel engine is at par or better than most of the small cars or even entry level sedans. The side profile of the car is excellent and comes quiet handy while doing rounds in the city, which is makes the car very useful for most requirements. Ford Figo is one of the most awarded hatchbacks in India.
