How To Make Extra Money Blogging

Blogging is one method used to make money online that almost anyone can do successfully by only dedicating just a few hours per week. The basic definition of a blog is a mini site focused on a specific area of interest. This can be as easy as providing tips about your hobbies to providing professional advice based on your business background or anywhere in between.

So let’s get down to business your here to learn how to make money blogging so I’ve provided the three methods I used when I create new blogs to generate income online.

First – I prefer using a blogging platform called wordpress, it’s extremely user friendly but powerful at the same time allowing you to appear very professional even when you’re just starting out. You can create a free blog instantly by going to wordpress.com.   WordPress provides countless free plug-ins that have been designed to tackle even the most difficult tasks for blog owners. This includes getting your new blog visitor traffic to delivering advertisements so all you really need to focus on is writing great content that provides solid value to your readers.

Second – When I first set up a blog I will perform a search in Google that includes both what I’m interested in writing about as well as the term affiliate program. If I planned on writing a blog about trout fishing I would search Google for “Trout Fishing Affiliate Program”.

There are dozens of great affiliate companies online today that provide product offerings on virtually any topic you can think of. When you join an affiliate program (no worries it’s free) you will then be able to promote and sell any product they offer on your blog earning a commission from any sale you generate.

Let’s stick with our earlier example about trout fishing. You will be writing your blog about trout fishing tips, what techniques work best for you, where and when you have had the most success etc. This would be of great interest and value for any fisherman that reads your blog. They may also be interested in  downloading an eBook containing the top 100 trout recipes that you happen to be advertising through an affiliate program. When any visitor buys the eBook you earn a commission based on a percentage of that sale.

Now we all know that the majority of visitor traffic will not buy an eBook and are mostly interested in the free information you’re providing so there is another method you should employ to generate additional revenue from this non buyer traffic.

Google Ad Sense is an automated advertising method that free to join and easy to install using an ad sense plug-in on your wordpress blog. What this allows Google to do is place highly relevant advertising on your blog either in text links or various banner styles. The big difference is that you earn a small commission every time someone clicks on any of the advertisements regardless of if they actually buy or not. The amount you earn can be as little as ten cents per click to a couple of dollars depending on several factors determined by Google.  Explaining these factors properly would be a whole new article onto itself and would take us to far off topic to review them here.   One final way that should not be ignored is to create an opt in mailing list, this is where anyone who visits your blog can sign up to receive future information or newsletters. Try to offer something in return to entice the sign up in the first place. From a free report or specific advice on a particular topic are all good methods to encourage steady opt-ins.

The reason you want to build this list of people interested in the topic your blog is focused on is to create a market specific audience. Later on you will then be able to make other product suggestions that you stand to earn a commission on or just encourage them to re visit your blog when you post new updates.

Third – Begin reading about how to optimize your new blog for the search engines. This is a topic with no shortage of information and its worth spending a decent amount of time to learn proper SEO techniques. Its far more information than what I indented on covering in this article but search the term SEO and start applying what you learn to increase the number of visitors your blog receives. Do not overlook this as it will be the deciding factor of whether you blog earns money or falls flat.

I will make a few suggestions to get you started, firstly install a plug-in on your blog called “all in one seo pack”. This will walk you through the process of optimizing each new post or page that you create on your blog. Make sure your blog uses catchy attention grabbing titles that would make a reader want to visit. Including words such as discover or how to… can be great headlines for attracting visitor traffic.

Learning SEO can be a challenge and its easy to become overwhelmed by all the information. It’s important to break it down doing it step by step and you will begin to understand it far better and see the bigger picture behind the steps that your taking.

Once your blog has regular visitors you can begin writing blog posts about specific products and include your affiliate link within them to increase sales revenue. Keep in mind that traffic will always be your first goal followed by monetization because without visitors your revenue in nonexistent.

This is where many who start a blog to make money fail because they focus to aggressively on monetization before generating steady monthly traffic. Its far better to generate the traffic first by writing good quality useful information that your readers enjoy. Follow this up by slowly integrating the various revenue methods we discussed here and you will soon be making money with your new blog.

These are the three tips I always follow to make money blogging and I hope they will help you too.
