A3 Card Uses

The A series of paper sizes in an ISO standard adopted by majority of the world.  Very few countries, like the US which has not yet adopted the metric system, still uses the US Letter size for documents.  While the A4 size, with the dimensions of 210 mm by 297 mm is the standard document format and is officially used by most countries with very few exceptions, the A3 size of paper measuring 297 mm by 420 mm is becoming more popular as well and is being sold at stationery shops and office supply stores as A3 card for various home and office use.

A3 card is twice the size of an A4 sheet of paper, making it ideal for use for posters or large presentations and easily scalable to standard document size simply by dividing all measurements by half.  The card has a weight of 160 gsm which is not yet considered board but it is thicker and more durable than regular sheet paper. Sheets of this weight will not tear easily but they can still be easily be rolled up or cut without creasing or warping.  Yet it is still thin enough that it can still be fed normally into a large format colored inkjet printer or photocopier machine without the risk of jamming the feed reels or other mechanisms.  The card also produces less dust and leaves behind less fibers than ordinary paper so machines will stay in top condition longer with out the need to open up for a general cleaning and vacuum as often.

Due to the versatility of A3 card for making signs, cards, decorative embellishments, and other uses, it is now sold in packs of various colors.  Some sheets can even be ordered with either a pearlescent or shiny, glossy surface on one side and a smooth matte surface on the other, making a single sheet more versatile for many purposes.  Metallic and textured cards offer an extra punch to posters and presentations.  Large size printers are even being manufactured to accommodate this size of paper.  There are even laminators and home binding machines made for A3 sized projects.

The A series of paper sizes was purposely designed so that each increasing number is exactly half the size of it’s predecessor.  And although it is double the size of a standard document, A3 cards are showing up more often on office supply store and stationery and craft shop shelves.  They are particularly useful for professional digital offset printers who can print various materials such as business cards on the larger sheets of card stock and cut them down to size after the printing process.  It is more convenient to print on the largest sheet possible and reduce the size later than to print on the individual smaller sheets needed for the final printed material.

A3 sized papers are ideal to use for posters.  The standard size makes it easy to purchase not only the card stock but holders and display stands for the A3 card as well.  The various colors and finishes the sheets are available to purchase in ensures that the posters drawn up or printed on them will be eye-catching even with the simplest of designs.
