Indian Wildlife- Nature’s Greatest Blessings to the Environment

India is the most suitable habitat of wide varieties of mammals, birds and many different types of organisms. It is the only land where you can find great varieties and numbers of domestic and wild animals including cows, buffaloes, goats, poultry and sheep, lions, tigers, leopards, snow leopards, Black panthers, cheetahs, wolves, foxes, bears, crocodiles, rhinoceroses, camels, monkeys, snakes, antelope, deer species, varieties of bison and not to mention the mighty Asian elephant.

In recent times, the human invasion has posed a great threat to India’s wildlife and in response to that many national parks and protected areas including wildlife reserves have been established. These places are not only a natural habitat and a protected area for the wild lives but offers amazing location for the visitors for sightseeing and enjoying the natural environment which they are unable to find in the urban areas.

There are almost 89 national parks, 13 bio reserves and 400+ wild life sanctuaries across the country. Some of the most famed natural reserves in India are:

Ranthambore National Park, Rajasthan

Located in the Sawai Madhopur district of South-eastern Rajasthan, Ranthambore National Park is one of the major wildlife tourist attraction spot. It was once the famous and former hunting grounds of the Mharajas of Jaipur. This park is spread over an area of 1,334 sq km along with its nearby sanctuaries like the Man Singh sanctuary and the kaila Devi sanctuary. The park is majorly famous for preserving tigers especially the Bengal Tigers. Apart from that this place also offers great events of natural sightseeing for the nature lovers with verdant greenery.

Bandhavgarh National Park, Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh proudly defines this glorifying National Park which is situated 197 km away north east of Jabalpur. It belongs to the Vindhyan ranges of Central India where you can find the highest density of tiger population. It was declared national park in 1968 and is famous for white tigers. Tourists can also catch the glimpses of Nilgai, Chausingha, Chital, Chinkara, Wild Boar and sometimes a Fox or Jackal.

Jim Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand

Recognized in 1936 as the first national park in India, Corbett National Park is one of the famous tourist attractions with its diverse wildlife and breathtaking landscapes. The park is located in Nainital and Pauri district of Uttaranchal in northern India at an altitude of 385-1100 m above the sea level. The annual rainfall in this region is of 1400-2800 mm and the temperature ranges are 4° C in winters and 42° C in summers. This park is a tribute to the famous hunter and conservationist Jim Corbett who believed in the preservation of the natural wildlife.

Kaziranga Natioanl Park Assam

Kaziranga National Park is situated at the banks of Brahmaputra River in Nagaon district, Assam; and is renowned for the preservation of large number of one horned Indian rhinoceros. The park is spread across the area of 430 sq kms and provides a unique habitat for 100 numbers of rhinoceros and other wild creatures including, white elephants, tigers, mouse deer, the hog deer, barking deer, chinkara gazelle, bears, leopards, leopard cat, wild boars and gaur. It is an ideal place for adventure and sports activities with unique natural views.

Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, Rajasthan

The Keoladeo National Park or Ghana National Park which was formerly known as Bharatpur National Park is India’s famous avifauna sanctuary in Rajasthan. It is the only place where one can find 230 species of birds including the Siberian crane and many migratory birds during winters. It was declared a protected sanctuary in 1971 and is also a world heritage site.

Gir National Park, Gujarat

Gir National Park is one of the famous forest and wildlife sanctuary in Gujarat which was established in 1965. Covering across the area of 1412 km², the park is located 65 km to the south east of Junagarh and 60 km to south west of Amreli. This park is the only remaining habitat of Asiatic Lion. Sasan, with a forest rest-house is the headquarters of the sanctuary. Tourists can enjoy great tropical varieties rugged with low hills and attractive vegetation with large patches of grasslands.
