Samsung SCH-R500 Hue Review
Samsung has, unfortunately, become a name that is synonymous with a perfectly average phone. Their designs are not particularly cutting edge like those made by Motorola. They are not designed to be technologically advanced like Nokia or HTC devices. And they are not feature filled like the majority of Sony Ericsson phones. No, nearly every Samsung phone is rather boring and mundane – except for the Samsung SCH-r500 Hue.
The Samsung SCH-r500 Hue is a CDMA phone designed to work specifically in America and a couple of other places in the world (if you’re lucky). However, the lack of usability around the globe has its advantages – mainly that almost all CDMA phones offer 3G support. And the Samsung SCH-r500 Hue is no different. You can access all of the data you want on the high speed EVDO rev. 0 network.
One of the smaller clamshell phones on the market, the Samsung SCH-r500 Hue measures in at approximately three and a half inches by two inches by one inch and weighs only 95 grams. As is often the case with such small phones, however, the Samsung SCH-r500 Hue’s battery only allows for three hours of talk time. On the positive side, the battery can squeeze out an unheard of 530 hours of standby time. That’s 22 days without a charge.
The insides of the Samsung SCH-r500 Hue are respectable, although they are nothing spectacular. The Samsung SCH-r500 Hue features a 2.12 inch, 176 pixel by 220 pixel resolution, 262 thousand color LCD screen on the inside of the device and a smaller black and white display on the outside.
As far as other features go, the Samsung SCH-r500 Hue includes a 1.3 Megapixel digital camera with a digital zoom feature. There is also an audio and video player although the supported file format list is a bit short. Furthermore, memory can be expanded via microSD. Also included in the Samsung SCH-r500 Hue are Bluetooth support, GPS support, a speakerphone, and support for various voice dialing commands.
Pros
-Small and stylish
-Plenty of features for the average user
-3G support
Cons
-Terrible battery life (talk time)
-Lack of supported music and video formats
Overall
You should really think about looking into the Samsung SCH-r500 Hue if you are an Alltel customer. While there are, obviously, better phones on the market at this price range, Samsung devices are notoriously hearty and easy to use, making them perfect for the average user.
