Seattle Seahawks Tickets: Franchise Overview
The Seattle Seahawks came into the NFL as an expansion franchise in 1976. Under head coach Chuck Knox, Seattle reached the playoffs for the first time in 1983. The Seahawks made four postseason appearances from 1983-88.
After struggling though most of the nineties, the arrival of Mike Holmgren in 1999 helped Seattle get the team back on track. Holmgren led the franchise to five consecutive playoff appearances from 2003-07.
Wide receiver Steve Largent, quarterback Dave Krieg, running back Shaun Alexander, offensive lineman Walter Jones and quarterback Matt Hasselbeck have been some of Seattle’s most accomplished players over the years.
The Seahawks hold the unique distinction of having played in both conferences since arriving in the NFL. In 2002, Seattle moved over to the NFC from the AFC as part of a new realignment related to the addition of the Houston Texans franchise to the league.
Seattle’s Super Bowl Season
After winning a franchise-best 13 games during the 2005 regular season, the Seahawks were the top seed entering the NFC playoffs. Seattle opened the postseason with a victory over the Washington Redskins. The win enabled the Seahawks to host the NFC title game against the Carolina Panthers. With the help of an electric home crowd, Seattle rolled to a 34-14 triumph to reach its first Super Bowl. Hasselbeck, Alexander and Jones all played key roles in Seattle’s run to the Super Bowl.
In the big game, the Seahawks came up short against the Pittsburgh Steelers in a 21-10 setback. Some controversial officiating hurt the Seahawks in the Super Bowl matchup against the Steelers.
Home Stadium
