Courses Offered:
IIT offers undergraduate courses in undergraduate and graduate. They are also focused research institutes. At the undergraduate level, undergraduate level, all students get a B. Tech. degree. Specific nomenclature depends on the current degree of engineering students chosen.
Each IIT is famous for engineering flows in particular. Typically students choose M. Tech in Power Electronics, Computer Science, Electronics, Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering flows. Considering that the courses of study are common first year for all students, from the second year, courses of study are decided according to the mainstream of their chosen engineering.
The IITs also offer integrated Master’s degree in technology like M. Tech in Mechanical Engineering and other courses. Master of Business Administration course is also offered along with Master of Science. The level of research, Ph.D. is also offered by IIT.
Admission Process:
Admission to all IIT is performed through a system test input centrally. The procedure for admission to IIT is known as the Common Entrance Examination on an average, about 600,000 students to write the JEE every year. Of these only 5,500 students are selected for these elite institutions. To appear for the JEE, the applicant must have secured 60% marks in 10 + 2 with science subjects. For the reserved category, the minimum percentage required is 55%. The test can not be more than twice and maximum age is 25 years (30 years for reserved categories).
Postgraduate admissions are made through specific tests of the course. By M. technical courses, the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is performed. By M. Sc. JAM (for M.Sc. joint entry) is carried out while admission to management programs is through JMET (Joint Entrance Test for Management).
Job Prospects:
Since most of the best engineering colleges of the country, completing the degree of IIT is in itself a guarantee of employment. Most students have jobs through placement sessions on campus. Students have many opportunities for international work with U.S. companies based on one of the largest lessors of IIT alumni.
