Phillies’ Polanco sits with back pain
The Philadelphia air max Shoes Phillies thought they had finally gotten their starting lineup intact following a season full of injuries. But on Wednesday afternoon, hours before taking the field for Game 1 of the first-round series, they found out they would be without Placido Polanco, their third baseman and No. 2 hitter, for at least the first game of the series.
Polanco, suffering soreness in his middle back, was out of the Phillies’ lineup in Game 1, replaced at third base by Wilson Valdez and in the No. 2 spot in the lineup by center fielder Shane Victorino.
After informing Phillies officials of his back soreness during Tuesday’s pre-series workout, Polanco felt even worse when he reported to the ballpark Wednesday. “He came in and told me he couldn’t bend over,” Manager Charlie Manuel said. “And he said he didn’t think he was going to be able to play.”
The Phillies still believe there is a chance Polanco can play in Friday night’s Game 2 and were not considering replacing him on their first-round roster – a move that would make him ineligible for the National League Championship Series, if the Phillies advance.
