How to Play Rummy?

Rummy is among the leading card games and it has been known by different names throughout its history. This includes names like Straight Rummy, Regular Rummy, Standard Rummy, Traditional Rummy and Basic Rummy. Most of the different variations of this game are ideally suited for wagering as the game has the features of a thrilling game like po ker, but with more amounts of skills. The rules mentioned below are the ones used most commonly in Rummy. These can also be considered the ‘official’ rules because there are no actual official rules in this thrilling game. Number of Players and Deck

2 to 6 players can play Straight Rummy, and the regular standard deck of 52 cards is used for the game. The players can decide whether the game is to be played for one round, several rounds or for a target score that is set before the beginning of the play.

The Deal

The very first dealer is selected randomly or it can be determined by a draw of cards, with the lowest card holder becoming the first dealer.

The Objective

The main objective in Rummy is to finish all the cards and this can be done in any of the three ways following the starting draw.

Draw

This is an obligatory step and every player starts his/her turn by “Drawing” a card.

1. Melding

In this optional step, cards can be grouped by the placement of combination of 3 or more cards from the player’s hand with face up in the provided area. You can choose from a couple of combinations known as Runs and Sets.

2. Laying Off

 In this second optional step, cards are added from the player’s hand to the melds that are placed previously on the table. These previous melds can be placed by any of the players.

3. Discarding

This is an obligatory step, and here the player would place one card from his/her hand into the discard pile. Every player is required to discard one card, and this ends the turn of the player.
