Do You Want Adventure? Consider Cruise Line Jobs
Most people tend to think of luxury style travel as something that perhaps they can do as a vacation once in a while, at least if they get a job that pays well enough or if they save enough. Cruise Ship Jobs, however, can let you combine earning a salary with travel to interesting and exotic destinations.
You may be thinking, “But I don’t really know anything about ships.” The good news is that you might not need to. It is very true that any cruise vessel is a ship, and obviously will have many opportunities for those with maritime experience, training or interests. But since it is also a luxury hotel, there are many opportunities open for people with background or training in almost all areas of management, food service, entertainment, maintenance, and many other job descriptions too numerous to list in a short article like this. Almost any job that you might be doing on land will have an equivalent position aboard the larger cruise ships, or at the very least jobs that use the same set of skills.
While many other businesses have been having troubles and downsizing, the cruise industry has been on a strong increase for over a decade, and has doubled over just the past four years. New ships are being built at this very moment, and will need personnel. But even if it were not for the new ships, the cruise lines have a higher turnover rate than most other businesses. While it is certainly possible to make a long term career within the cruise industry, many people only work for a year or two before returning to land based jobs. In some cases, they may have mostly wanted the experience as a stepping stone in their career or perhaps they have felt it was time to settle down and buy a home. Whatever the reason, the turnover is good news for new people interested in the adventure. The cruise lines are almost always hiring, and there are plenty of opportunities every year for advancement.
So if travel to interesting and exotic locations, living aboard a literal sea-going luxury hotel, and working in a professional environment with good prospects for advancement and opportunity sounds like something you’d be interested in, you might consider looking into the cruise industry. Instead of just hoping to go on a vacation once a year, you could live and work on the sort of ship most people pay a considerable amount to ride as a passenger, going to the same interesting places and enjoying the same environment. Most of the cruise lines do their own hiring, and you can find them easily via any Internet search engine. Cruise ship jobs do require a background check and having a recent complete physical, but so will most similar jobs you might consider on land. When you consider the potentials for earning a salary while you travel in a luxurious work environment, and the usual benefits like health insurance and discounts on cruise travel being available for your family while you are employed on a cruise ship, it can be a great opportunity with a bit more glamour and adventure than most jobs can provide.
