Laugh the fat off: How humor can help you lose weight.

Laughing makes us feel better and relaxed. Why? Neurotransmitters in the brain trigger electrical impulses to set off chemical reactions and increase the “feel good” hormone, endorphins. Endorphins are nature’s drug of choice for getting high. This morphinelike chemical boost tolerance to pain, calms you during stress, and produces a feeling of euphoria and satisfaction. Hence, the “cleansing” experience you may experience after a good laugh.
Laughing also exercises the stomach by contracting your abdominal muscles, relaxes the shoulder and neck area, increases blood flow and helps lower blood pressure.
In addition, laughter is a great mental distracter by helping to reframe our perceptions of the events around us and lowers our stress levels. This may be one reason why people “nervously” laugh during seemingly inappropriate situations.
However, because the endorphin hormone makes us feel good, it also makes foods taste and smell better, sweeter, and creamer. The taste of sweetness on the tongue releases more endorphins making the sweet treat instantly enjoyable. This is one reason why people often eat sugar laden foods when they are happy. There is no surprise then that much of our blissful celebrations are centered on cakes, pies and other sweet pastries. So, watch what you put into your mouth when you are enjoying yourself. Balance the effects of laughter by eating foods rich in protein. Never eat sugar by itself or you will become stuck in the perpetual endorphin cycle.
The Feel Good Diet: Use laughter and food to help boost your mood.
Below are whys to stop fighting your biology and start using it to naturally lose weight while feeling happy and energized.
Balance your breakfast with SuperfoodTM combinations. These include a protein, complex carbohydrate and simple sugar. A sample breakfast would include a small banana, oatmeal with skim milk. You could also add additional protein power in your oatmeal to balance your blood sugar and mood.
Eat high sugar foods before noon (if you must) – Uur body’s cortisol levels are at their highest between 6 am and 8:30 am which means we have more energy. Use this time to enjoy your favorite higher GI foods if you must. Meaning, if you are having a craving for your favorite food and it’s listed as a high GI, then you can enjoy it but be sure to do that in the morning. Yes, even if it’s ice cream! Remember you will need to combine it with a protein to keep your glucose from spiking and turning on the insulin pumps. For faster results eat Medium level GI foods combined with protein.
Eat the right portions – DO NOT go over the recommended portion size of any food group. Read the package label to understand specific portion sizes for your favorite products. See the side bars for specific information.
Eat 5 to 6 smaller meals per day – The main reason for this isn’t only to boost your metabolism but keeping your blood sugar stable. If you are eating the right portion, your meal will “appear smaller.”
