Mother’s Day Flowers and It’s Significance
The gift of flowers is always a pleasure to receive, and Mother’s Day is traditionally one of the most popular days of the year to send flowers. Every mother loves to be remembered with a stunning bouquet, and May is the perfect time of year because so many varieties are in season and available locally. Let’s take a look at some of the perennial favorites.
Just as milestone anniversaries have special significance, certain flowers have special meaning attached to them as well. One such flower, the tulip, is said to symbolize fame and love. In particular, red tulips are a perfect way to declare your love. Each tulip color has a different meaning. For instance, yellow tulips announce that “you have a smile like the sunshine”, while cream-colored tulips mean that your love is forever.
Another very popular choice on Mother’s Day is the carnation. Red carnations mean deep love and affection, while white ones symbolize good luck. Purple carnations announce a whimsical personality. Perhaps the most symbolic of all, pink carnations, were said to first appear on earth from the Virgin Mary’s tears, and so they represent a mother’s unending love.
Daisies are another very popular flower to give on Mother’s Day. Daises are a sign of beauty, and what mother wouldn’t want to be reminded how beautiful she is? Daisies are readily available and come in a wide array of varieties and colors. Gerbera daisies are particularly attractive and symbolize playfulness.
Lilacs have also always been popular as a gift for a loving mother. They symbolize the special love between a child and mother, and are always fragrant and attractive no matter where they appear throughout the home. Give lilacs for a special and satisfying reaction from a grateful Mother.
Roses are known to represent deep and special love. They are readily available, come in a wide variety of styles and colors, and are always very much appreciated. Either red or white roses are appropriate for Mother’s Day, and their elegance will add a touch of class to the home while mother enjoys their fragrance and beauty.
While bouquets can be stunning and are always a welcome gift, some people prefer to give the gift of a blooming plant so mother can enjoy her gift for longer than cut flowers may last. Plants that can be transferred to an outdoor garden will be a gift that keeps on giving. Popular choices include azaleas and also miniature roses, but there are many outdoor plants and bushes that will do just as well.
Don’t forget that Mom has favorite colors and flowers as well. Don’t choose a flower just because it symbolizes a special meaning for you. Take Mom’s favorite flower or color into consideration as well, and make this Mother’s Day a special event by giving the gift of flowers!
