Having two punctures at the same time is unfortunate to say the least
Traveling to work is a stressful time; the rush hour traffic seems to worsen week by week. I think it is because of the poor public transport, and most people wanting the freedom using their individual car offers, after work. Like me I am sure they may visit the gym or a social club rather than return home. I personally could not manage all my work baggage and a gym bag as well, on the tube or a bus, so the car has to be used. It is a shame it has to be this way, but at the moment there is no alternative that meets my needs. I would prefer to live close to work and not even run a car at all however, rents and house prices in the city are far beyond my salary, so it remains just a dream. I watch films on New York where the city residents run in Central Park and along the embankment of the Hudson river, and I think about how small NY is and they can afford to house both the rich and poor together on such a small plot of land.
Well I am back to my miserable drive to work, which encompasses a drive down the packed A13, from Rainham, to the capital city center. I not only have to pay high fuel prices and the congestion charge but parking is getting a little ridiculous, to say the least. This morning I was driving as normal moving a car length approximately every minute or so, you can imagine how long a six mile journey will take! I had just passed the last petrol station when I noticed my steering wheel wobbling and the guy in the car next to me shouted that I had a puncture(Punktering af dine bildæk is the term used in Denmark).
I pulled over next to a café in the bus terminal entrance and had a look. My front passenger side tire was punctured, I had to get filthy and change it for the spare. It seemed I was not the only one, as I saw three other drivers all changing punctured tires in the same area. After about thirty minutes, I was dirty but back in the rush hour traffic. I had just passed the half way mark when the same thing happened again. The lady next to me on the inside shouted and pointed to the passenger wheel and said it was punctured. I had a job to get on to the inside lane, but eventually I was stopped and stuck as I had a second puncture.
I remembered my partner had purchased some aerosol cans that can re-inflate a punctured tire, whilst the plug is in the hole. I attached the screw on hose and then pressed the button on the top. To my amazement it did work, the tire inflated and it stayed up whilst I drove to the tire shop on my way to work.
