Mahindra Scorpio clocks 50,000 sales in last fiscal
Mahindra is riding high on success with the uber performance of its Mahindra Scorpio SUV. Mahindra Scorpio registered the highest ever sales in the last fiscal year since the time it was launched in India. A whopping 50,000 units were sold in the fiscal year which ended on March 31st, 2012. In 2011, Mahindra roped in 43,451 units of Scorpio SUV, which implies a growth of 17%. Till present date, Mahindra Scorpio fanbase has surpassed one million fans mark on its Facebook page.
On achieving this landmark, the Chief Executive, Automotive Division, Mr. Pravin Shah stated that, the company is elated with th achievement of Scorpio. Scorpio brought goodwill to the company and is one of the oldest horses in the exponentially growing Indian car market. Ever since its inception, the SUV have been basking in glory and has also received various awards and accolades. According to the Mahindra Scorpio reviews, the SUV comes equipped with a 2.2 litre, 4-cylinder mHawk diesel mill that vrooms the SUV from 0 to 60 in a mere 5.7 seconds. The mHawk engine was inducted five years back in the year 2007. The powertrain pumps out 120 bhp of power. Present only in diesel trim, the muscular and rugged SUV is offered in 24 variants adorning an array of various engines. Mahindra Scorpio price ranges between Rs 7,42,930 to Rs 12,66,497 (e-showroom price).
Even after a decade, Scorpio’s popularity has not faded and the 50,000 unit sale in the last fiscal year makes the point even more clear.As per the latest news, Mahindra is now planning to give a complete makeover to the SUV. The project has been codenamed W105, and will be launched in the domestic market by 2014. Mahindra will use the same body-on-ladder frame in the new Scorpio. The development of the new Mahindra Scorpio is taking place at the Mahindra’s newly developed research centre located in Chennai. Under the hood, the new Mahindra Scorpio will come affixed with the 2.2 liter turbo diesel engine that is capable of churning out 140 Bho of power and a peak torque of 330 Nm.
Also the W105 is expected to have a longer wheelbase too which will make the Scorpio more spacious.

Launched last year towards the end of September, the SUV received an unparalleled response from the Indian customers. XUV 500 dons awe-inspiring looks and also come equipped with an array of features, including both luxury and safety features.
SUVs in India are becoming popular rapidly, during the 11th Auto Expo too auto maker from across the world showcased a number of new SUVs which will become a part of the domestic market soon. Amongst these SUVs, Maruti’s XA Alpha, Renault’s Duster and Ford’s EcoSport will be launched in India in 2012. The SUVs are still under development and are expected to be launched around the festive season of Diwali.
