Plastic Molding with Thermoformed Plastics

There are many things that have been shaped by thermoforming which we tend to take for granted. It would be useful to learn a bit about this plastic molding process.

The Process-

Thermoforming is a process by which huge plastic sheets are heated up to high temperatures and cooled down and shaped in a mold to get the desired format or product. Vacuum forming is a sub process in which vacuum is applied between the plastics and the molds to create the required format. In most cases, long plastic sheets of desired colors and materials are rolled into machines where heat is applied. This machine moves the heated sheet from the oven to the place where the shape will be formed. The plastic sheet may be either pushed into or onto the mold with differing levels of pressure so as to create the required level of detailing.

Uses-

Thin vacuum forming plastic is used in the manufacturing industry to manufacture a diverse range of products such as medical packaging, disposable cups, plastic clamp shell packaging. Thick thermoforming is used in the manufacturing of complex components such as automobile parts, electronic parts, home appliance liners etc.

Custom thermoformed plastics may combine both these methods to produce unique and intricate plastic parts of specific sizes, shapes and thickness that are used in various industries.

Advantages-

Vacuum forming has several advantages over other plastic molding solutions such as injection molding. This is a method by which huge objects can be molded out of long plastic sheets. Other methods can only make small objects.

Moreover, the tools required for this process are not all that expensive. Competitors such as injection molding machinery are almost 30 % more expensive than thermoforming tools.

While other processes can only use certain types of plastic sheets in their machines, a thermoforming machinery unit can use nearly all the various kinds of plastic for production purposes.

Buyers can be assured of superior quality end products which will be more durable than products created by using alternative methods. Thermoformed plastics products are preferred by packaging industries because of their excellent quality.

Skilled labor is easy available to operate this machinery as opposed to those operating injection molding machinery.

The thermoforming process may be a bit time consuming and expensive, but the results are well worth it. You will find many companies selling vacuum formed and thermoformed products online. You can place orders in bulk and make great profits.
