Maruti Swift Dzire prices raised by up to Rs 20,000 since February

Maruti Suzuki India launched the revamped Swift Dzire in the domestic market in the beginning of the year after Auto Expo. The trimmed boot sedan was priced competitively at Rs 5.80 lakh and the price goes up to Rs 7.09 lakh for the diesel avatar. During the launch of the upgraded Maruti Swift Dzire the company did mention that the prices were the introductory prices and were subject to change.

Maruti was overwhelmed with the kind of response the company got for the second generation of Maruti Swift Dzire sedan. The popularity of the sedan has gone to the next level and is garnering as many as 15,000 sales every month, outnumbering most of its rivals in the entry level sedan segment. The entry level sedan segment has some of the highly popular cars like, Toyota Etios sedan, Nissan Sunny, Mahindra Verito, Tata Manza etc. As far as the compact sedan segment is concerned, Swift Dzire is the second offering in this segment, prior to this Tata Motors launched Tata Indigo eCS as a pioneer of the segment.

This is the second time that Maruti Suzuki India has hiked the price second generation Swift Dzire sedan, the first time Maruti hiked prices after the announcement of Union Budget 2012. Post the announcement of Union Budget 2012 Maruti hiked Swift Dzire prices by Rs 8,500 to Rs 12,700 in the month of April. Despite this hike there was no change in the sales of new Swift Dzire.

Within a month after the company hiked Maruti Swift Dzire price, this is the second instance that Maruti again hiked the price of Swift Dzire diesel trims and Automatic version of Dzire between Rs 8,000 to Rs 12,000 and Rs 12,000 respectively. Maruti Swift Dzire diesel is offered in three variants, Maruti Swift Dzire LDi, Maruti Swift Dzire VDi and Maruti Swift Dzire ZDI. The base variant LDi is now priced at Rs 5.99 lakh, VDi is tagged at Rs 6.52 lakh and teh top end version Zdi is now available at Rs 7.34 lakh (all prices mentioned are ex-showroom, New Delhi).

However, the automatic version of Swift Dzire which is offered on the VXi petrol variant only is now dearer by Rs 12, 000. The diesel version of Swift Dzire is now powered with the mighty 1.3 litre DDiS engine which generates 75PS of power at 4000 rpm and a peak torque of 190Nm at 2000rpm.

In total the prices of second generation Swift Dzire have been raised by Rs 20,000 since February when in was launched in the Indian car market.

Apart from the automatic version, the petrol powered prices remain unchanged. The petrol models are offered in LXi, VXi and ZXi, this might be due to the low demand for the petrol cars in India. Maruti’s Q4 sales result has seen a slight hike on the back of new Maruti Swift Dzire sedan and new Maruti Swift hatchback. Maruti has sealed a deal with Fiat to source it diesel engines. This is done to shorten the long waiting period of the hatchback.
