Indo-Japanese Cuisine Connections

India and Japan are both situated in the same continent. Both these Asian countries share a rich cultural and historic bond. Buddhism which is a widely practiced religion in Japan slowly spread to Japan from India. Buddhism which originated in India, slowly transcended boundaries and during the 6th century it was introduced in Japan. While Buddhism travelled to Japan from India, facets of Indian culture also integrated with the Japanese culture and Indian culture had an impact on Japanese culture. Indians and Japanese with their common cultural ties feel a sense of closeness.

Move over to the modern times, and we can see that India and Japan share peaceful and good international relations. From the economic point of view also, trade has significantly improved between these two nations. Japan and India share more than just cultural connections. Japanese cuisine is slowly growing in popularity among the Indians especially Indian youth. Japanese food is getting a positive response from Indians. Rice which is the staple food of the Japanese is widely consumed in India also. There are many good Japanese restaurants in Mumbai and some other metro cities of India.

Nowadays, many of the Indian youth are well travelled. They have experimented and tried a wide range of cuisines. They are eager to try out new types of cuisines and are showing an interest in Japanese cuisine as well. The most famous and well known Japanese food item all over the world is sushi. Indian versions of sushi have made their way into the palate nowadays. Traditional Japanese sushi has non vegetarian fillings, but Indian versions of sushi are being made with vegetarian stuffing. Sushi essentially being a non vegetarian dish is now offered as a vegetarian dish in some Japanese restaurants in Mumbai to suit the tastes and preferences of the Indian people.

Japanese diet is considered to be very healthy and one of the best in the world. It has been shown to prevent disease. It helps to keep people healthy and improves longevity. It has been seen that the Japanese have a long life span. In many places in the world, Japanese cuisine has been adapted and changed to suit the tastes of the local populace. In Japan also other cuisines of the world are gaining popularity.

Nowadays, the world is fast becoming a smaller place. Although physically Japan is far away from India, Japanese food has made its presence felt in various parts of the country. If you have gone abroad on international trips, you might have tried various kinds of recipes.  If you have tasted Japanese cuisine somewhere, then you do not have to go abroad again to try Japanese food. There are Japanese restaurants in Mumbai and other metro cities in India itself. Foreign cuisines such as Japanese food are being well received in India. Food is a common binder and has always helped people and countries come closer.
