Maruti Ertiga compact MPV clocks 32,000 bookings in a month
India’s largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki India launched Maruti Ertiga in India on April 12th, 2012 and within a month of the car’s launch the MPV roped in 32,000 bookings. When the car received 10,000 bookings within five days of launch people thought that it was the initial hype but the company put a full stop to its critics by garnering 32,000 bookings in one month’s time. The waiting period for the Maruti Ertiga MPV is already six months. It seems that as predicted the MPV will be one of the best selling cars in India from Maruti.
Diesel demand is soaring high, around 70% of the Maruti Ertiga bookings account for the diesel variant. Maruti Ertiga petrol version is attracting people who wish to use it for commercial use only. Maruti is currently manufacturing 6000 units of Ertiga every month therefore the waiting period for the MPV is not likely to come down by any chance. The seven seater vehicle from Maruti is being produced at its Gurgaon manufacturing plant, Maruti calls it a LUV (Life Untility Vehicle), though Maruti is looking for an alternative to scale up the production of Maruti Ertiga LUV.
Rumours are doing the rounds in the Indian car market that the car prices may be hiked due to depreciation in rupee against dollar. Depreciation in money is directly proportional to rise in car prices and hence, it may affect the Maruti Ertiga price. Maruti Ertiga is being offered at a very competitive price therefore a slight change in any of the parameter that affects the price would directly hit Ertiga as there is no room for any such change. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga made it clear at the launch of Ertiga that the prices were subject to change and the MPV was launched at introductory prices. Few days back, Maruti also hiked price of Maruti Swift Dzire diesel and AT version which is offered in petrol variant. Therefore it is clear that if Ertiga keeps receiving immense response from the Indian customers, it will up Ertiga price too.
Maruti not just forayed in the MPV segment but it also inducted a new segment. The company is thinking to adapt the strategy of not juts launching new cars in India but also foraying into new segments. The response received is immense therefore it will further strengthen Maruti’s plans to come up with new cars and segments. Also Maruti is developing a new compact SUV christened Maruti XA Alpha compact SUV which it also showcased at the 11th Auto Expo held at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi in the month of January. The compact SUV will be priced aggressively between Rs 7 lakh to Rs 9 lakh. Just like Ertiga, XA Alpha is also expected to get the same response. Maruti is planning to launch the SUV during the festival of lights Diwali, the auspicious festival will fall on November 13th, 2012. India car sales in Diwali surge substantially and with a new car priced competitively, Maruti expects volumes. Let’s wait and watch what kind of response does this compact SUV gets after launch.
